God informs Moses, who intercedes for Israel, and prevails.
15 Moses comes down with the tables.

Exodus 32:29  (King James Version)
For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
 


Or, another reading of this verse is: And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves to-day to the Lord; because every man hath been against his son and against his brother, etc.
