1 Kings 22:53

53 He served Baal and worshiped him. He provoked the Lord God of Israel just as his father had done.

1 Kings 22:53 Meaning and Commentary

1 Kings 22:53

For he served Baal, and worshipped him
That is, Ahaziah served him, as his father had done, and his mother still did:

and provoked to anger the Lord God of Israel, according to all that his
father had done;
of which there is an instance in the first chapter of the following book; for falling through a lattice, and becoming sick upon it, he quickly died, having sent messengers to inquire of the god of Ekron whether he should die or not.

1 Kings 22:53 In-Context

51 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Judah's King Jehoshaphat; he reigned over Israel two years.
52 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight. He walked in the way of his father, in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin.
53 He served Baal and worshiped him. He provoked the Lord God of Israel just as his father had done.
