Exodus 16:27 Meaning and Commentary

Exodus 16:27

And it came to pass
Perhaps the next seventh day following:

[that] there went out [some] of the people for to gather;
to gather manna, as on other days; which they did not through want of provision or a greedy appetite, for they had bread every day, and on that day to the full, but to gratify their curiosity, or to see whether the words of Moses stood, as Aben Ezra expresses it, that is, whether what he said was true, or came to pass, that there should be none, and they should not be able to find any on that day, and so it was:

and they found none;
no manna; in the places where they used to find it in plenty on other days.

Exodus 16:27 In-Context

25 "Eat it today," Moses said, "because today is a Sabbath to the Lord. Today you won't find any in the field.
26 For six days you may gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none."
27 Yet on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they did not find any.
28 Then the Lord said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep My commands and instructions?
29 Understand that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day He will give you two days' worth of bread. Each of you stay where you are; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day."
