Mark 14:24 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 14:24

And he said unto them
Not after they had drank of it, but before, and as he gave it to them: this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many;
in Matthew it is added, "for the remission of sins"; (See Gill on Matthew 26:28).

Mark 14:24 In-Context

22 As they were eating, He took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take [it]; this is My body."
23 Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it.
24 He said to them, "This is My blood [that establishes] the covenant; it is shed for many.
25 I assure you: I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it in a new way in the kingdom of God."
26 After singing psalms, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
