Ezekiel 21:17

17 I also will 1clap my hands, 2and I will satisfy my fury; 3I the LORD have spoken."

Ezekiel 21:17 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 21:17

I will also smite my hands together
As well as the prophet was bid to do, ( Ezekiel 21:14 ) , either expressing a concern for the calamity of the people, or indignation at their sins: or rather as encouraging their enemies to make use of the sword pointed at them, and, as it were, rejoicing at their destruction for the honour of his justice. The Targum is,

``and even I will bring vengeance upon vengeance:''
and I will cause my fury to rest;
when the sword has done its business, and just vengeance is taken, the fury of the Lord shall cease; it shall proceed no further, it shall be kept within due bounds, and no more or further rage: I the Lord have said it;
who is omnipotent, and can do all things, and will do everything that he has said, whether in a way of promise or threatening.

Ezekiel 21:17 In-Context

15 that their hearts may melt, and many stumble. At all their gates I have given the glittering sword. Ah, it is made like lightning; it is taken up for slaughter.
16 Cut sharply to the right; set yourself to the left, wherever your face is directed.
17 I also will clap my hands, and I will satisfy my fury; I the LORD have spoken."
18 The word of the LORD came to me again:
19 "As for you, son of man, mark two ways for the sword of the king of Babylon to come. Both of them shall come from the same land. And make a signpost; make it at the head of the way to a city.
