1Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.

And the shepherds returned,
2glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

And
3at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised,
4he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Jesus Presented at the Temple

5when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem
6to present him to the Lord

(as it is written in
7the Law of the Lord,
8"Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord")

and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in
9the Law of the Lord,
10"a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was
11righteous and
12devout,
13waiting for
14the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not
15see death before he had seen
16the Lord's Christ.

And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when
17the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,
28
he took him up in his arms and
18blessed God and said,

"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart
19in peace,
20according to your word;
