And the shepherds returned,
1glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

2at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised,
3he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Jesus Presented at the Temple

4when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem
5to present him to the Lord

(as it is written in
6the Law of the Lord,
7"Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord")

and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in
8the Law of the Lord,
9"a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was
10righteous and
11devout,
12waiting for
13the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not
14see death before he had seen
15the Lord's Christ.

And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when
16the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,

he took him up in his arms and
17blessed God and said,

"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart
18in peace,
19according to your word;

for
20my eyes have seen your
21salvation
