1And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, "If you are
2the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,
10
for it is written,
3"'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,'
11
and
4"'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"
12
And Jesus answered him,
"It is said, 5'You shall not 6put the Lord your God to the test.'"

And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him
7until an opportune time.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
14 8And Jesus returned
9in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and
10a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.
15
And
11he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
16 12And he came to
13Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And
14as was his custom,
15he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up
16to read.

And
17the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
18
18"The Spirit of the Lord 19is upon me, because he has anointed me to 20proclaim good news to the poor. 21He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and 22recovering of sight to the blind, 23to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

24to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
