9
1Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember 2the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
10
Or 3the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
11
How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? 4Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
12
5Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of 6the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
137Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
14
And they said, "Some say 8John the Baptist, others say 9Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16
Simon Peter replied, 10"You are 11the Christ, 12the Son of 13the living God."
17
And Jesus answered him, 14"Blessed are you, 15Simon Bar-Jonah! For 16flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, 17but my Father who is in heaven.
18
And I tell you, 18you are Peter, and 19on this rock[a] I will build my church, and 20the gates of 21hell[b] shall not prevail against it.
19
I will give you 22the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and 23whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[c] in heaven."
