Matthew 23:29-39

29 1"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,
30 saying, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are 2sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32 3Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
33 You serpents, 4you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to 5hell?
34 6Therefore 7I send you 8prophets and wise men and 9scribes, 10some of whom you will kill and crucify, and 11some you will 12flog in your synagogues and 13persecute from town to town,
35 so that on you may come all 14the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of innocent 15Abel to the blood of 16Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[a] whom you murdered between 17the sanctuary and 18the altar.
36 Truly, I say to you, 19all these things will come upon this generation.#rl

37 20"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that 21kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have 22gathered 23your children together 24as a hen gathers her brood 25under her wings, and 26you would not!
38 See, 27your house is left to you desolate.
39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, 28'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
