Psalms 31:19-24

19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, 1in the sight of the children of mankind!
20 In 2the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you 3store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously 4shown his steadfast love to me when I was in 5a besieged city.
22 I had said in my 6alarm,[a] "I am 7cut off from 8your sight." But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
23 Love the LORD, all you his 9saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly 10repays the one who acts in pride.
24 11Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

Psalms 31:19-24 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, a Psalm of David. This psalm, according to Arama, was composed by David when in Keilah; but, according to Kimchi and others, when the Ziphites proposed to deliver him up into the hands of Saul; and who, upon their solicitations, came down and surrounded him with his army, from whom in haste he made his escape, and to which he is thought to refer in Psalm 31:22. Theodoret supposes it was written by David when he fled from Absalom, and that it has some respect in it to his sin against Uriah, in that verse.
