God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD,b the God of your fathers3--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob4--has sent me to you.' This is my name5 forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.6
The Hebrew for "LORD" sounds like and may be derived from the Hebrew for "I AM" in verse 14.
"Go, assemble the elders7 of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob8--appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen9 what has been done to you in Egypt.
"The elders of Israel will listen12 to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews,13 has met14 with us. Let us take a three-day journey15 into the desert to offer sacrifices16 to the LORD our God.'
