So I have come down5 to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land,6 a land flowing with milk and honey7--the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites8 and Jebusites.9
God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD,c the God of your fathers19--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob20--has sent me to you.' This is my name21 forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.22
The Hebrew for "LORD" sounds like and may be derived from the Hebrew for "I AM" in verse 14.
"Go, assemble the elders23 of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob24--appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen25 what has been done to you in Egypt.
"The elders of Israel will listen28 to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews,29 has met30 with us. Let us take a three-day journey31 into the desert to offer sacrifices32 to the LORD our God.'
Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver39 and gold40 and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder41 the Egyptians."42
