Now there was a famine in the land1--besides the earlier famine of Abraham's time--and Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines2 in Gerar.32
The LORD appeared4 to Isaac and said, "Do not go down to Egypt;5 live in the land where I tell you to live.63
Stay in this land for a while,7 and I will be with you8 and will bless you.9 For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands10 and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.114
I will make your descendants12 as numerous as the stars in the sky13 and will give them all these lands,14 and through your offspringa all nations on earth will be blessed,155
because Abraham obeyed me16 and kept my requirements, my commands, my decrees17 and my laws.18"
So Isaac stayed in Gerar.19
