Then he blessed1 Joseph and said, "May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked,2 the God who has been my shepherd3 all my life to this day,
the Angel4 who has delivered me from all harm5 --may he bless6 these boys.7 May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac,8 and may they increase greatly upon the earth."917
When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand10 on Ephraim's head11 he was displeased; so he took hold of his father's hand to move it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head.
Joseph said to him, "No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head."1219
But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great.13 Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he,14 and his descendants will become a group of nations.15"
He blessed16 them that day17 and said, "In youra name will Israel18 pronounce this blessing:19 'May God make you like Ephraim20 and Manasseh.21' " So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.
Then Israel said to Joseph, "I am about to die, but God will be with youb22 and take youc back to the land of yourd fathers.2322
And to you, as one who is over your brothers,24 I give the ridge of lande25 I took from the Amorites with my sword26 and my bow."
