John 14:4

4 You know the way to the place where I am going."

John 14:4 Meaning and Commentary

John 14:4

And whither I go ye know
They might have known, at least, whither he was going, since he had spoke of his Father's house, and of his going to prepare a place for them there, and doubtless had some knowledge thereof, though very confused and imperfect:

and the way ye know:
this also they might have known from some expressions of his, that the way to his Father's house lay through sufferings and death, in which way they also were to follow him to his kingdom and glory. Though these words may be with an interrogation, "and whither I go do ye know? and the way do ye know?" which best agrees with Thomas's answer, and removes all appearance of contradiction between Christ's words and his.

John 14:4 In-Context

2 My Father's house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I'm going to prepare a place for you?
3 If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you're going. So how can we know the way?"
6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me.
