Ezekiel 22:8

8 You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Shabbatot.

Ezekiel 22:8 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 22:8

Thou hast despised mine holy things
The holy place, the temple, and the worship of it; holy persons, the priests that officiated there; holy sacrifices offered up by them; the holy word of God read and explained; and all holy ordinances there administered. These words are directed to Jerusalem, the holy city, and to the inhabitants of it, who ought to have been holy men: and hast profaned my sabbaths;
by doing their own work, and neglecting the service of God; and which was an inlet, as it usually is, to all manner of sin.

Ezekiel 22:8 In-Context

6 Behold, the princes of Yisra'el, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.
7 In you have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of you have they dealt by oppression with the sojourner; in you have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.
8 You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Shabbatot.
9 Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood; and in you they have eaten on the mountains: in the midst of you they have committed lewdness.
10 In you have they uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you have they humbled her who was unclean in her impurity.
