Luke 8:51 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 8:51

And when he came into the house
Of the ruler of the synagogue;

he suffered no man to go in:
to the room, where the dead body lay:

save Peter, James and John;
not one of the multitude that followed him, nor any of the disciples, but these three; who were his favourite ones, and were a sufficient number to be witnesses of the miracle:

and the father and mother of the maiden;
these also were admitted. The Persic version very wrongly joins these last words with the beginning of the next verse, reading them thus, "the father and mother of the maiden, with the domestics, wept and bewailed her".

Luke 8:51 In-Context

49 While he still spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue's house came, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Don't trouble the Teacher."
50 But Yeshua hearing it, answered him, "Don't be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed."
51 When he came to the house, he didn't allow anyone to enter in, except Kefa, Yochanan, Ya`akov, the father of the girl, and her mother.
52 All were weeping and mourning her, but he said, "Don't weep. She isn't dead, but sleeping."
53 They laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
