but after we had alreadysuffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of Godamidmuchopposition.

Havingsofond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our ownlives, because you had becomeverydear to us.

For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how workingnight and dayso as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

For thisreason we alsoconstantlythankGod that when you received the word of Godwhich you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, whichalsoperforms its work in you who believe.

For you, brethren, becameimitators of the churches of God in ChristJesus that are in Judea, for you alsoendured the samesufferings at the hands of your owncountrymen, even as they did from the Jews,

hindering us from speaking to the Gentilesso that they may be saved; with the result that they alwaysfill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

But we, brethren, having been takenaway from you for a short*while -in person, not in spirit -were all the moreeager with greatdesire to see your face.
