A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood1 that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol2 that will not topple.321
Do you not know? Have you not heard?4 Has it not been told5 you from the beginning?6 Have you not understood7 since the earth was founded?822
He sits enthroned9 above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.10 He stretches out the heavens11 like a canopy,12 and spreads them out like a tent13 to live in.1423
He brings princes15 to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.1624
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root17 in the ground, than he blows18 on them and they wither,19 and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.2025
"To whom will you compare me?21 Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.2226
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:23 Who created24 all these? He who brings out the starry host25 one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength,26 not one of them is missing.2727
Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?2828
Do you not know? Have you not heard?29 The LORD is the everlasting30 God, the Creator31 of the ends of the earth.32 He will not grow tired or weary,33 and his understanding no one can fathom.3429
He gives strength35 to the weary36 and increases the power of the weak.
