A Prophecy Against Babylon

1 An oracle1 concerning Babylon2 that Isaiah son of Amoz3 saw:4

2 Raise a banner5 on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates6 of the nobles.

3 I have commanded my holy ones; I have summoned my warriors7 to carry out my wrath8-- those who rejoice9 in my triumph.

4 Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude!10 Listen, an uproar11 among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty12 is mustering13 an army for war.

5 They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens14-- the LORD and the weapons15 of his wrath16-- to destroy17 the whole country.

6 Wail,18 for the day19 of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction20 from the Almighty.a21
