Deuteronomy 6:16

Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God
By striving with him or against him, by murmuring at or complaining of his providential dealings with them, or by requiring a sign of him, or miracles to be done by him; this is another passage used by Christ to repel the temptations of Satan, ( Matthew 4:7 ) ,

as tempted him in Massah;
a place so called from the Israelites tempting the Lord there, ( Exodus 17:7 ) , the Targum of Jonathan adds, with ten temptations; see ( Numbers 14:21 ) .

14 No andaréis en pos de dioses ajenos, de los dioses de los pueblos que están en vuestros contornos

15 porque el Dios celoso, el SEÑOR tu Dios, en medio de ti está; que por ventura no se inflame el furor del SEÑOR tu Dios contra ti, y te destruya de sobre la faz de la tierra

16 No tentaréis al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, como lo tentasteis en Masah

17 Guardad cuidadosamente los mandamientos del SEÑOR vuestro Dios, y sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, que te ha mandado

18 Y harás lo recto y lo bueno en ojos del SEÑOR, para que te vaya bien, y entres y heredes la buena tierra que el SEÑOR juró a tus padres
