I set a trap1 for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it; you were found and captured2 because you opposed3 the LORD.
The LORD has opened his arsenal and brought out the weapons4 of his wrath, for the Sovereign LORD Almighty has work to do in the land of the Babylonians.526
Come against her from afar.6 Break open her granaries; pile her up like heaps of grain.7 Completely destroy8 her and leave her no remnant.
Kill all her young bulls;9 let them go down to the slaughter!10 Woe to them! For their day11 has come, the time12 for them to be punished.
Listen to the fugitives13 and refugees from Babylon declaring in Zion14 how the LORD our God has taken vengeance,15 vengeance for his temple.1629
"Summon archers against Babylon, all those who draw the bow.17 Encamp all around her; let no one escape.18 Repay19 her for her deeds;20 do to her as she has done. For she has defied21 the LORD, the Holy One22 of Israel.
Therefore, her young men23 will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day," declares the LORD.
"See, I am against24 you, O arrogant one," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty, "for your day25 has come, the time for you to be punished.
The arrogant26 one will stumble and fall27 and no one will help her up;28 I will kindle a fire29 in her towns that will consume all who are around her."
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The people of Israel are oppressed,30 and the people of Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to let them go.3134
Yet their Redeemer32 is strong; the LORD Almighty33 is his name. He will vigorously defend their cause34 so that he may bring rest35 to their land, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
