Deuteronomy 28:51

51 and he shall eat the fruit of thy beast and the fruit of thy land until thou art destroyed, which also shall not leave thee either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy cows or flocks of thy sheep until he has destroyed thee.

Deuteronomy 28:51 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 28:51

And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle
Larger and lesser, oxen and sheep, as their calves and lambs, and kids of the goat:

and the fruit of thy land;
their wheat, barley, figs, grapes, pomegranates, olives, and dates:

until thou be destroyed;
the land of Judea, and all the increase of it: this being before said, ( Deuteronomy 28:31 Deuteronomy 28:33 ) ; and here repeated, shows that the same should be fulfilled at different times, as by the Chaldeans, so by the Romans; whose nation, or army, with their general at the head of them, may be more especially here intended by "he", that should eat up their fruit until utter destruction was brought upon them:

which [also] shall not leave thee [either] corn, wine, or oil, [or]
the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have
destroyed thee;
all being consumed by the Roman army. There is a promise and prophecy, that though this would be the case, as it has been, there shall be a time when it shall be so no more; see ( Isaiah 62:8 Isaiah 62:9 ) .

Deuteronomy 28:51 In-Context

49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand,
50 a nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old nor show favour to the young;
51 and he shall eat the fruit of thy beast and the fruit of thy land until thou art destroyed, which also shall not leave thee either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy cows or flocks of thy sheep until he has destroyed thee.
52 And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates until thy high and fenced walls come down, in which thou dost trust, throughout all thy land; and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God has given thee.
53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God has given thee, in the siege and in the straitness with which thine enemies shall distress thee.
