1And it came to pass , ashewentinto the house of one of the chiefPharisees to eatbread on the sabbath day, thattheywatchedhim.2And,behold , there was a certainmanbeforehim which had the dropsy.3AndJesusansweringspakeunto the lawyersandPharisees,saying , Is itlawful to heal on the sabbath day?4And they held their peace . And he took him, and healedhim,and let him go ;
5Andansweredthem , saying , Which of you shall have an assor an oxfalleninto a pit,andwillnotstraightwaypullhimouton the sabbathday?6And they couldnotanswerhimagainto these things.7And he put forth a parableto those which were bidden , when he markedhow they chose out the chief rooms;saying untothem,8When thou art biddenofany man to a wedding,sitnotdownin the highest room;lest a more honourable man than thoubebiddenofhim;9And he that badetheeandhimcome and say to thee,Give this manplace;andthoubeginwithshame to take the lowestroom.10Butwhen thou art bidden , go and sit downin the lowestroom;thatwhen he that badetheecometh , he may say unto thee,Friend, go uphigher:then shalt thouhaveworship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.11Forwhosoeverexaltethhimself shall be abased ; and he that humblethhimself shall be exalted .12Then said healso to him that badehim,When thou makest a dinneror a supper,callnotthyfriends,northybrethren,neitherthykinsmen,nor thy richneighbours;lesttheyalsobidtheeagain , and a recompence be madethee.13Butwhen thou makest a feast,call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:14And thou shalt beblessed;for they cannotrecompensethee:forthou shalt be recompensedat the resurrection of the just.15And when one of them that sat at meat with himheard these things, he said unto him,Blessed is he that shall eatbreadin the kingdom of God.16Then said he unto him,A certainmanmade a greatsupper,andbademany:17Andsenthisservant at suppertime to say to them that were bidden , Come ; for all thingsarenowready.18And they allwithone consent began to make excuse . The firstsaid unto him, I have bought a piece of ground,and I mustneedsgoandseeit: I praytheehavemeexcused .19Andanothersaid , I have boughtfiveyoke of oxen,and I go to provethem: I praytheehavemeexcused .20Andanothersaid , I have married a wife,andthereforeIcannotcome .21Sothatservantcame , and shewedhislord these things.Then the master of the house being angrysaid to hisservant, Go outquicklyinto the streetsandlanes of the city,and bring inhither the poor,and the maimed,and the halt,and the blind.22And the servantsaid , Lord, it is doneas thou hast commanded , andyet there isroom.23And the lordsaidunto the servant, Go outinto the highwaysandhedges,andcompel them to come in , thatmyhouse may be filled .24For I say unto you,Thatnone of thosemenwhich were bidden shall taste of mysupper.25And there wentgreatmultitudes with him:and he turned , and saiduntothem,26If any man cometome,andhatenothisfather,andmother,andwife,andchildren,andbrethren,andsisters,yea,and his ownlifealso, he cannotbemydisciple.27Andwhosoeverdothnotbearhiscross,andcomeafterme,cannotbemydisciple.28Forwhichofyou,intending to build a tower,sittethnotdownfirst, and counteth the cost,whether he have sufficient tofinish it?29Lesthaply, after he hath laid the foundation,andisnotable to finish it, all that behold it begin to mockhim,30Saying , Thismanbegan to build , andwasnotable to finish .31Orwhatking,going to makewaragainstanotherking,sittethnotdownfirst, and consultethwhether he beablewithtenthousand to meet him that comethagainsthimwithtwentythousand?32Or else, while the otherisyet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desirethconditions of peace.33Solikewise,whosoever he be ofyouthatforsakethnotall that he hath , he cannotbemydisciple.34Salt is good:butif the salt have lost his savour , wherewithshall it be seasoned ?35It isneitherfitfor the land, nor yetfor the dunghill; but men castitout. He that hathears to hear , let him hear .
