"The Lord has rejected all the warriors in my midst;1 he has summoned an army2 against me toa crush my young men.3 In his winepress4 the Lord has trampled5 the Virgin Daughter6 of Judah.
"This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears.7 No one is near to comfort8 me, no one to restore my spirit. My children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed."917

"The LORD is righteous,14 yet I rebelled15 against his command. Listen, all you peoples; look upon my suffering.16 My young men and maidens have gone into exile.1719
"I called to my allies18 but they betrayed me. My priests and my elders perished19 in the city while they searched for food to keep themselves alive.
"See, O LORD, how distressed20 I am! I am in torment21 within, and in my heart I am disturbed,22 for I have been most rebellious.23 Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is only death.2421
"People have heard my groaning,25 but there is no one to comfort me.26 All my enemies have heard of my distress; they rejoice27 at what you have done. May you bring the day28 you have announced so they may become like me.
"Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins.29 My groans30 are many and my heart is faint."
