Isaiah 50:9

9 Look! The Lord Yahweh helps me. Who is the one who will declare me guilty? Look! All of them will be worn out like a garment; [the] moth will eat them.

Isaiah 50:9 Meaning and Commentary

Isaiah 50:9

Behold, the Lord God will help me
This is repeated from Isa 50:7, (See Gill on Isaiah 50:7); to show the certainty of it, the strength of his faith in it, and to discourage his enemies: who is he that shall condemn me?
make me out a wicked person F3, prove me guilty, and pass sentence upon me, when thus acquitted and justified by the Lord God? The Apostle Paul seems to have some reference to this passage in ( Romans 8:33 Romans 8:34 ) , lo, they all shall waste old as doth a garment;
his enemies, those that accused him, the Scribes, Pharisees, and chief priests; and those that condemned him, the Jewish sanhedrim, and the Roman governor: the moth shall eat them up;
they shall be like a worn out or motheaten garment, that can never be used more. The phrases denote how secret, insensible, and irrecoverable, their ruin should be, both in their civil and church state, all being abolished and done away.

Isaiah 50:9 In-Context

7 And the Lord Yahweh helps me, therefore I have not been put to shame; therefore I have set my face like flint. And I know that I shall not be ashamed;
8 he who obtains rights for me [is] near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand together. Who [is] the master of my judgment? Let him approach me.
9 Look! The Lord Yahweh helps me. Who is the one who will declare me guilty? Look! All of them will be worn out like a garment; [the] moth will eat them.
10 Who among you [is] in fear of Yahweh, obeys the voice of his servant? Who walks [in] darkness and has no light, trusts in the name of Yahweh and depends on his God?
11 Look! All of you [are] kindlers of fire, who gird yourselves with flaming arrows. Walk in the light of your fire, and among [the] flaming arrows you have kindled! You shall have this from my hand: you shall lie down in a place of torment.
