Luke 7:1 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 7:1

Now when he had ended all his sayings
That is, when Jesus, as the Persic version expresses it, had finished all the above sayings, doctrines, and instructions; not all that he had to say, for he said many things after this:

in the audience of the people;
of the common people, the multitude besides the disciples; and that openly, and publicly, and with a loud and clear voice, that all might hear:

he entered into Capernaum;
Jesus entered, as the Syriac version reads, into his own city, and where he had been before, and wrought miracles.

Luke 7:1 In-Context

1 After he had finished all his statements in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 Now a certain centurion's slave, who was esteemed by him, {was sick} [and] was about to die.
3 So [when he] heard about Jesus, he sent Jewish elders to him, asking him that he would come [and] cure his slave.
4 And [when they] came to Jesus, they began imploring him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy [that] you grant this for him,
5 because he loves our nation and he himself built the synagogue for us."
