"Because of you I will rebukea your descendantsb; I will spread on your faces the offal1 from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it.24
And you will know that I have sent you this admonition so that my covenant with Levi3 may continue," says the LORD Almighty.
"My covenant was with him, a covenant4 of life and peace,5 and I gave them to him; this called for reverence6 and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.
True instruction7 was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked8 with me in peace9 and uprightness,10 and turned many from sin.117

But you have turned from the way15 and by your teaching have caused many to stumble;16 you have violated the covenant17 with Levi,"18 says the LORD Almighty.
"So I have caused you to be despised19 and humiliated20 before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality21 in matters of the law."22
Have we not all one Fatherc ?23 Did not one God create us?24 Why do we profane the covenant25 of our fathers by breaking faith26 with one another?
Judah has broken faith. A detestable27 thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD loves,28 by marrying29 the daughter of a foreign god.3012
As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the LORD cut him off31 from the tents of Jacobd32--even though he brings offerings33 to the LORD Almighty.
Another thing you do: You flood the LORD's altar with tears.34 You weep and wail35 because he no longer pays attention36 to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.37
