Exodus 30:35

35 to make an aromatic incense, the art of a perfumer, salted and pure - holy.

Exodus 30:35 Meaning and Commentary

Exodus 30:35

And thou shalt make it a perfume
By mixing the above spices together:

a confection after the art of the apothecary;
in the manner they beat, compound, and mix several ingredients together:

tempered together;
or "salted" F12, with salt of Sodom, as Aben Ezra interprets it; and Maimonides F13 says, there was a fourth part of a kab of salt of Sodom put into it: and whether this incense or perfume respects the intercession of Christ or the prayers of his people, they are both savoury and acceptable to God, the latter on account of the former; in all sacrifices salt was used, and every spiritual sacrifice of ours should be seasoned with grace:

pure and holy;
such should be the prayers of the saints, and such most certainly is the mediation of Christ, which is his much incense.

Exodus 30:35 In-Context

33 Whoever mixes up anything like it, or puts it on an ordinary person, will be expelled." Holy Incense
34 God spoke to Moses: "Take fragrant spices - gum resin, onycha, galbanum - and add pure frankincense. Mix the spices in equal proportions
35 to make an aromatic incense, the art of a perfumer, salted and pure - holy.
36 Now crush some of it into powder and place some of it before The Testimony in the Tent of Meeting where I will meet with you; it will be for you the holiest of holy places.
37 When you make this incense, you are not to copy the mixture for your own use. It's holy to God; keep it that way.
