Jeremiah 10:15

15 deadwood gods, tasteless jokes. When the fires of judgment come, they'll be ashes.

Jeremiah 10:15 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 10:15

They are vanity
They are the fruit of the vain imagination of men; to worship them shows the vanity of the human mind; and they are vain things to trust to: and the work of errors;
of erroneous men, and which lead men into errors; and are worthy to be laughed at, as the Targum paraphrases it. In the time of their visitation they shall perish;
or in the time that I shall visit upon them their sins, as the Targum; that is, when Babylon should be destroyed by the Medes and Persians, as Kimchi interprets it; when their idols were destroyed also; see ( Isaiah 46:1 ) .

Jeremiah 10:15 In-Context

13 He thunders, and rain pours down. He sends the clouds soaring. He embellishes the storm with lightnings, launches wind from his warehouse.
14 Stick-god worshipers looking mighty foolish, god-makers embarrassed by their handmade gods! Their gods are frauds - dead sticks,
15 deadwood gods, tasteless jokes. When the fires of judgment come, they'll be ashes.
16 But the Portion-of-Jacob is the real thing. He put the whole universe together And pays special attention to Israel. His name? God-of-the-Angel-Armies!
17 Grab your bags, all you who are under attack.
