Psalms 71:4

4 My God, free me from the grip of Wicked, from the clutch of Bad and Bully.

Psalms 71:4 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 71:4

Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked
Meaning Absalom his son, as Arama, who had risen up in rebellion against him; and he may not only intend him, but all those wicked men that had joined with him: it was David's mercy he had a covenant God to go to, and could claim his interest in him, who had power to deliver him, and from whom he might expect it;

out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man;
or "leavened" F19; a sour ill natured man; one leavened with malice and wickedness: perhaps Ahithophel is intended. It may be applied to any wicked, lawless, and tyrannical persecutor of God's people; and particularly to the lawless and wicked one, the man of sin, the son of perdition, antichrist, ( 2 Thessalonians 2:4 2 Thessalonians 2:8 ) .

Psalms 71:4 In-Context

2 Do what you do so well: get me out of this mess and up on my feet. Put your ear to the ground and listen, give me space for salvation.
3 Be a guest room where I can retreat; you said your door was always open! You're my salvation - my vast, granite fortress.
4 My God, free me from the grip of Wicked, from the clutch of Bad and Bully.
5 You keep me going when times are tough - my bedrock, God, since my childhood.
6 I've hung on you from the day of my birth, the day you took me from the cradle; I'll never run out of praise.
