1 Moreover, David and the commanders of the armysetapart for the service some of the sons of 1Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who were to 2prophesy with lyres, 3harps and cymbals; and the number of those who performed their service was:

Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesiedunder the direction of the king.

4Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their fatherJeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in givingthanks and praising the LORD.

Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.

Allthese were the sons of Heman5the king'sseer to exalt him according to the words of God, for Godgavefourteen*sons and threedaughters to Heman.

Allthese were under the direction of their father to sing in the house of the LORD, 6with cymbals, harps and lyres, for the service of the house of God. 7Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the direction of the king.

Their number who were trained in singing to the LORD, with their relatives, all who were skillful, was 288**.
This chapter relates the appointment of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, to be singers in the temple, 1Ch 25:1-7 the distribution of them by lot into twenty four classes, twelve in each class, 1Ch 25:8-31.
