1 John 3:2-12

2 ¹Beloved, now we are ²children of God, and ³it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He ⁴appears, we will be ⁵like Him, because we will ⁶see Him just as He is.

3 And everyone who has this ⁷hope fixed on Him ⁸purifies himself, just as He is pure.

4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and ⁹sin is lawlessness.

5 You know that He ¹⁰appeared in order to ¹¹take away sins; and ¹²in Him there is no sin.

6 No * one who abides in Him ¹³sins; no * one who sins has seen Him or ¹⁴knows Him.

7 ¹⁵Little children, make sure no one ¹⁶deceives you; ¹⁷the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;

8 the one who practices sin is ¹⁸of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. ¹⁹The Son of God ²⁰appeared for this purpose, ²¹to destroy the works of the devil.

9 No * one who is ²²born of God ²³practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot * sin, because he is born of God.

10 By this the ²⁴children of God and the ²⁵children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who ²⁶does not love his ²⁷brother.

11 ²⁸For this is the message ²⁹which you have heard from the beginning, ³⁰that we should love one another;

12 not as ³¹Cain, who was of ³²the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because ³³his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
