30"Howmuchmore , if only the people had eatenfreelytoday of the spoil of their enemieswhich they found! For now the slaughter among the Philistines has not been great."
They struck among the Philistines that day from 1Michmash to 2Aijalon. And the people were veryweary.
323The peoplearushedgreedily upon the spoil, and tooksheep and oxen and calves , and slew them on the ground; and the peopleate them 4with the blood.
Then they toldSaul, saying, "Behold, the people are 5sinning against the LORD by eating with the blood." And he said, "You have actedtreacherously; roll a greatstone to me today."
34Saulsaid, "Disperseyourselves among the people and say to them, 'Eachone of you bring me his ox or his sheep, and slaughter it here and eat; and do not sin against the LORD by eating with the blood.' " So all the people that nightbroughteachone his oxbwith him and slaughtered it there.
And 6Saulbuilt an altar to the LORD; it was the firstaltar that he built to the LORD.
Then Saulsaid, "Let us godownafter the Philistines by night and takespoil among them until the morninglight, and let us not leave a man of them." And they said, "Dowhatever seems goodcto you." So 7the priestsaid, "Let us drawnear to Godhere."
37Saul8inquired of God, "Shall I godownafter the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?" But 9He did not answer him on that day.
38Saulsaid, "10Drawnearhere, all you dchiefs of the people, and investigate and seehowthissin has happenedtoday.
"For 11as the LORDlives, who deliversIsrael, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surelydie." But not one of all the peopleanswered him.
Then he said to allIsrael, "You shall be on oneside and I and Jonathan my son will be on the otherside." And the peoplesaid to Saul, "Dowhat seems goodeto you."
