Then Davidsaidato himself, "Now I will perishoneday by the hand of Saul. 1There is nothingbetter for me thanbto escape into the land of the Philistines. Saul then will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand."
So Davidarose and crossedover, he and 2the sixhundredmenwho were with him, to 3Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
And Davidlived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, 4each with his household, even David with 5his twowives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal'scwidow.
Now it was toldSaul that David had fled to Gath, so he nolongersearched for him.
Then Davidsaid to Achish, "Ifnow I have foundfavor in your sight, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may livethere ; for why should your servantlive in the royalcity with you?"
So Achishgave him Ziklag that day ; therefore6Ziklaghas belonged to the kings of Judah to thisday.
The number of days that Davidlived in the country of the Philistines was 7a year and fourmonths.
Now David and his menwent up and raided8the Geshurites and the Girzites and 9the Amalekites ; for they were the inhabitants of the land from ancienttimes, as you come to 10Shur even as far as the land of Egypt.
9Daviddattacked the land and did not leave a man or a womanalive, and he 11took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish.
Now Achishsaid, "Where have you 12made a raidtoday ?" And Davidsaid, "Against the eNegev of Judah and against the fNegev of 13the Jerahmeelites and against the gNegev of 14the Kenites."
