14Remind them of thesethings, and solemnly1charge them in the presence of God not to 2wrangleaboutwords, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

Be diligent to 3presentyourselfapproved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accuratelyhandling4the word of truth.

But 5avoid6worldly and emptychatter, for ait will lead to furtherungodliness,

and their btalk will spreadlikecgangrene. Among them are 7Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18
men who have goneastray from the truthsaying that 8the resurrection has alreadytakenplace, and they upset9the faith of some.
19Nevertheless, the 10firmfoundation of Godstands, havingthis11seal, "12The Lordknowsthose who are His," and, "13Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness."
20Now in a largehouse there are not onlygold and silvervessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and 14some to honor and some to dishonor.
21Therefore, ifanyonecleanseshimself from 15these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, 16prepared for everygoodwork.
22Now17flee from youthfullusts and pursuerighteousness, 18faith, love and peace, with those who 19call on the Lord20from a pureheart.

But refusefoolish and ignorant21speculations, knowing that they 22producedquarrels.
2423The Lord'sbond-servantmust not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, 24able to teach, patientwhenwronged,
2525with gentlenesscorrectingthose who are in opposition, 26ifperhapsGod may grant them repentanceleading to 27the knowledge of the truth,

and they may come to their senses and escape from 28the snare of the devil, having been 29heldcaptiveeby him to do his will.
