15After14the reading of the Law and 15the Prophets16the synagogueofficialssent to them, saying, "Brethren , if you have anyword of exhortation for the people, say it."
16Paulstood up, and 17motioning with his handsaid, "Men of Israel, and 18 you who fearGod, listen:
"The God of thispeopleIsrael19chose our fathers and a20made the peoplegreatduring their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an upliftedarm21He led them out from it.
"For 22a period of aboutfortyyears23He put up with them in the wilderness.
"24When He had destroyed25sevennations in the land of Canaan, He 26distributed their land as an inheritance -all of which took 27aboutfourhundred and fiftyyears.
20"Afterthesethings He 28gave them judgesuntil29Samuel the prophet.
