Thisman was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, 9when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had10faith to be madewell,

said with a loudvoice, "Standupright on your feet." 11And he leaped up and began to walk.

When the crowdssawwhatPaul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the 12Lycaonianlanguage, "13The gods have becomelikemen and have comedown to us."

And they began callingBarnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chiefspeaker.

The priest of Zeus, whose temple was justoutside the city, broughtoxen and garlands to the gates, and 14wanted to offersacrifice with the crowds.

But when 15the apostlesBarnabas and Paulheard of it, they 16tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out

and saying, "Men, why are you doingthesethings? We are also17men of the samenature as you, and 18preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these19vainthings to a 20livingGod, 21WHOMADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM.
