Thisman was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, 3when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had4faith to be madewell,

said with a loudvoice, "Standupright on your feet." 5And he leaped up and began to walk.

When the crowdssawwhatPaul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the 6Lycaonianlanguage, "7The gods have becomelikemen and have comedown to us."

And they began callingBarnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chiefspeaker.

The priest of Zeus, whose temple was justoutside the city, broughtoxen and garlands to the gates, and 8wanted to offersacrifice with the crowds.

But when 9the apostlesBarnabas and Paulheard of it, they 10tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out

and saying, "Men, why are you doingthesethings? We are also11men of the samenature as you, and 12preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these13vainthings to a 14livingGod, 15WHOMADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM.

"In the generationsgone by He 16permittedall the nations to 17go their own ways;

and yet18He did not leaveHimselfwithoutwitness, in that He didgood and 19gave you rains from heaven and fruitfulseasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness."
