And when Paul and Barnabashadgreat*dissension and 1debate with them, 2the brethren determined that Paul and Barnabas and someothers of them should go up to Jerusalem to the 3apostles and eldersconcerningthisissue.

Therefore, being 4sent on their way by the church, they were passingthroughboth5Phoenicia and Samaria, 6describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and were bringinggreatjoy to all7the brethren.

When they arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the church and 8the apostles and the elders, and they 9reportedall that God had done with them.

But some of 10the sect of the 11Pharisees who had believedstood up, saying, "It is necessary to 12circumcise them and to direct them to observe the Law of Moses."

13The apostles and the elderscametogether to look into thismatter.

After there had beenmuch14debate, Peterstood up and said to them, "Brethren*, you know that in the earlydays15Godmade a choiceamong you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of 16the gospel and believe.

"And God, 17whoknows the heart, testified to them 18giving them the HolySpirit, just as He also did to us;

and 19He madenodistinctionbetween us and them, 20cleansing their hearts by faith.

"Nowthereforewhy do you 21putGod to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yokewhich22neither our fathersnor we have beenable to bear?

"But we believe that we are savedthrough23the grace of the LordJesus, in the sameway as they also are."

All the peoplekeptsilent, and they were listening to Barnabas and Paul as they were 24relatingwhat25signs and wondersGod had donethrough them among the Gentiles.
