3A visionappeared to Paul in the night: a man of 4Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Comeover to Macedonia and help us."
10
When he had seen5the vision, immediately6we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to 7preach the gospel to them.

Soputting out to sea from 8Troas, we ran9a straightcourse to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis;
12
and from there to 10Philippi, which is a leadingcity of the district of 11Macedonia, 12a Roman colony; and we were staying in thiscity for somedays.
13
And on 13the Sabbathday we wentoutside the gate to a riverside*, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we satdown and began speaking to the women who had assembled.

15
And when she and 17her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us.
16
It happened that as we were going to 18the place of prayer, a slave-girlhaving19a spirit of divinationmet us, who was bringing her mastersmuchprofit by fortune-telling.
17
FollowingafterPaul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "Thesemen are bond-servants of 20the MostHighGod, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation."
18
She continued doingthis for manydays. But Paul was greatlyannoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you 21in the name of JesusChrist to come out of her!" And it came out at that verymoment.
