And he found a Jewnamed1Aquila, a native of 2Pontus, having recentlycome from 3Italy with his wife4Priscilla, because5Claudius had commandedall the Jews to leaveRome. He came to them,

and because he was of the sametrade, he stayed with them and 6they were working, for by trade they were tent-makers.

And he was reasoning7in the synagogueevery8Sabbath and trying to persuade9Jews and Greeks.

But when10Silas and Timothy11camedown from 12Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly13testifying to the Jews that 14Jesus was the Christ.

But when they resisted and blasphemed, he 15shook out his garments and said to them, "Your 16blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go17to the Gentiles."

Then he leftthere and went to the house of a mannamedTitiusJustus, 18a worshiper of God, whosehouse was next to the synagogue.

19Crispus, 20the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord21with all his household, and many of the 22Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized.

And the Lordsaid to Paul in the night by 23a vision, "Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent;
10
for I am with you, and noman will attack you in order to harm you, for I have manypeople in thiscity."

And he settled there a year and sixmonths, teaching the word of Godamong them.

But while Gallio was 24proconsul of 25Achaia, 26the Jews with oneaccordrose up againstPaul and brought him before27the judgmentseat,
