and rescued him from all his afflictions, and 7granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he made him governoroverEgypt and all his household.

"Now8a faminecameoverallEgypt and Canaan, and greataffliction with it, and our fathers could findnofood.

"But 9when Jacobheard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the firsttime.

"On the second visit 10Josephmade himself known to his brothers, and 11Joseph'sfamily was disclosed to Pharaoh.

"Then12Josephsent word and invitedJacob his father and all his relatives to come to him, 13seventy-five*14persons in all.

"And 15Jacobwentdown to Egypt and there he and our fathersdied.

"From there they were removed to 16Shechem and laid in the tombwhichAbraham had purchased for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

"But as the 17time of the promise was approachingwhichGod had assured to Abraham, 18the peopleincreased and multiplied in Egypt,
