8 1See to it that no one takes you captive through 2philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the 3elementary principles of the world, arather than according to Christ. 9 For in Him all the 4fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been 5made bcomplete, and 6He is the head cover all 7rule and authority; 11 and in Him 8you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of 9the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been 10buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also 11raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who 12raised Him from the dead. 13 When you were 13dead din your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He 14made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out 15the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and 16He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had e17disarmed the 18rulers and authorities, He 19made a public display of them, having 20triumphed over them through fHim. 16 Therefore no one is to g21act as your judge in regard to 22food or 23drink or in respect to a 24festival or a 25new moon or a 26Sabbath hday- 17 things which are 27a mere shadow of what is to come; but the isubstance jbelongs to Christ. 18 Let no one keep k28defrauding you of your prize by 29delighting in lself-abasement and the worship of the angels, mtaking his stand on visions he has seen, n30inflated without cause by his 31fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to 32the head, from whom 33the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and oligaments, grows with a growth pwhich is from God. 20 34If you have died with Christ qto the 35elementary principles of the world, 36why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to 37decrees, such as, 21 "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" 22 (which all refer 38to things destined to perish rwith use )-in accordance with the 39commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the sappearance of wisdom in t40self-made religion and self-abasement and 41severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against 42fleshly indulgence.
