20 "I will spread My 1net over him, and he will be 2caught in My snare. Then I will bring him to Babylon and 3enter into judgment with him there regarding the unfaithful act which he has committed against Me.

Ezekiel 17:20 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 17:20

And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my
snare (See Gill on Ezekiel 12:13); where the same words are used, and of the same person: and I will bring him to Babylon;
though, as it is said in the place referred to, he should not see it, his eyes being put out before he was brought thither: and I will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath
trespassed against me;
for though it was breaking covenant and oath with a Heathen prince, yet it was a trespass against God, in whose name they were made; and his being laid in prison at Babylon, and kept there to the time of his death, was the Lord's pleading with him, and judging of him; it was a reproof for his sins, and a condemnation of him and them.

Ezekiel 17:20 In-Context

18 'Now he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and behold, he pledged his allegiance, yet did all these things; he shall not escape.' "
19 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "As I live, surely My oath which he despised and My covenant which he broke, I will inflict on his head.
20 "I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My snare. Then I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there regarding the unfaithful act which he has committed against Me.
21 "All the choice men in all his troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to every wind; and you will know that I, the LORD , have spoken."
22 Thus says the Lord GOD, "I will also take a sprig from the lofty top of the cedar and set it out; I will pluck from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
