33who by faith10conqueredkingdoms, 11performed acts of righteousness, 12obtainedpromises, 13shut the mouths of lions,
3414quenched the power of fire, 15escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were madestrong, 16becamemighty in war, 17putforeignarmies to flight.
3518Womenreceived back their dead by resurrection ; and others were tortured, not accepting their brelease, so that they might obtain a betterresurrection ;

and otherscexperiencedmockings and scourgings, yes, also19chains and imprisonment.

They were 20stoned, they were 21sawn in two, dthey were tempted, they were 22put to death with the sword ; they wentabout23in sheepskins, in goatskins , being destitute, afflicted, 24ill-treated38
(men of whom the world was not worthy ), 25wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holesein the ground.

And allthese, having f26gainedapprovalthrough their faith, 27did not receivegwhat was promised,

because God had hprovided28somethingbetter for us, so that 29apart from us they would not be madeperfect.
