By faith 1the walls of Jericho fell down 2after they had been encircled for seven days.
31
By faith 3Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies ain peace.
32
And what more shall I say ? For time will fail me if I tell of 4Gideon, 5Barak, 6Samson, 7Jephthah, of 8David and 9Samuel and the prophets,
33
who by faith 10conquered kingdoms, 11performed acts of righteousness, 12obtained promises, 13shut the mouths of lions,
34
14quenched the power of fire, 15escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, 16became mighty in war, 17put foreign armies to flight.
35
18Women received back their dead by resurrection ; and others were tortured, not accepting their brelease, so that they might obtain a better resurrection ;
36
and others cexperienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also 19chains and imprisonment.

They were 20stoned, they were 21sawn in two, dthey were tempted, they were 22put to death with the sword ; they went about 23in sheepskins, in goatskins , being destitute, afflicted, 24ill-treated

(men of whom the world was not worthy ), 25wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes ein the ground.

And all these, having f26gained approval through their faith, 27did not receive gwhat was promised,
40
because God had hprovided 28something better for us, so that 29apart from us they would not be made perfect.
