5whoserve1a copy and 2shadow of the heavenlythings, just as Mosesawas 3warned by God when he was about to erect the btabernacle ; for, "4SEE," He says, "THAT YOU MAKEallthingsACCORDING TO THE PATTERN WHICH WAS SHOWN YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN."
But now He has obtained a moreexcellentministry, by as much as He is also the 5mediator of 6a bettercovenant, which has been enacted on betterpromises.
For 7if that first covenant had beenfaultless, there would have been nooccasionsought for a second.
For findingfault with them, He says, "8BEHOLD, DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD, cWHEN I WILL EFFECT9A NEWCOVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH ;
910NOT LIKE THE COVENANTWHICH I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS ON THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT ; FOR THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, AND I DID NOT CARE FOR THEM, SAYS THE LORD.
"11FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAELAFTERTHOSEDAYS, SAYS THE LORD : dI WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM 12ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
1113AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACHEVERYONE HIS FELLOWCITIZEN, AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, 'KNOW THE LORD,' FOR 14ALL WILL KNOW ME, FROM eTHE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.
"15FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, 16AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINSNOMORE."
13fWhen He said, "17A new covenant," He has made the firstobsolete. 18But whatever is becomingobsolete and growingold is gready to disappear.
