Jeremiah 51:11-21

11 1Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! The LORD has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, Because His purpose is against Babylon to destroy it; For it is the 2vengeance of the LORD, vengeance for His temple.
12 3Lift up a signal against the walls of Babylon; Post a strong guard, Station sentries, Place men in ambush! For the LORD has both 4purposed and performed What He spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 O you who 5dwell by many waters, Abundant in 6treasures, Your end has come, The measure of your 7end.
14 The 8LORD of hosts has sworn by Himself: "Surely * I will fill you with a population like 9locusts, And they will cry out with shouts of victory over you."
15 It is 10He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom, And by His understanding He 11stretched out the heavens.
16 When He utters His 12voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, And He causes the 13clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain And brings forth the 14wind from His storehouses.
17 15All mankind is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, For his molten images are 16deceitful, And there is no breath in them.
18 They are 17worthless, a work of mockery; In the time of their punishment they will perish.
19 The 18portion of Jacob is not like these; For the Maker of all is He, And of the tribe of His inheritance; The 19LORD of hosts is His name.
20 He says, "You are My 20war-club, My weapon of war; And with you I 21shatter nations, And with you I destroy kingdoms.
21 "With you I 22shatter the horse and his rider, And with you I shatter the 23chariot and its rider,

Jeremiah 51:11-21 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 51

The former part of this chapter is a continuation of the prophecy of the preceding chapter, concerning the destruction of Babylon, Jer 51:1-58; the latter part of it contains a prophecy of Jeremiah sent to the captives in Babylon by the hand of Seraiah, with the copy of the above prophecy against Babylon, and an order to fasten a stone to it, and cast it into the river Euphrates, as a sign, confirming the utter and irreparable ruin of Babylon, Jer 51:59-64.
