14Therefore, thussays the LORD, the God of hosts, "Because you have spokenthisword, Behold, I am 1making My words in your mouthfire And thispeoplewood, and it will consume them.
15"Behold, I am 2bringing a nationagainst you from afar, O house of Israel," declares the LORD. "It is an enduringnation, It is an ancientnation, A nation whose 3language you do not know, Nor can you understandwhat they say.
"Their 4quiver is like an 5opengrave, All of them are mightymen.
"They will 6devour your harvest and your food; They will devour your sons and your daughters; They will devour your flocks and your herds; They will devour your 7vines and your figtrees; They will demolish with the sword your 8fortifiedcities in which you trust.
"Yet even in thosedays," declares the LORD, "I will not make you a completedestruction.
"It shall come about 9whenathey say, 'Why has the LORD our Goddoneallthesethings to us?' then you shall say to them, 'As you have forsaken Me and servedforeigngods in your land, so you will 10servestrangers in a land that is not yours.'
20"Declarethis in the house of Jacob And proclaim it in Judah, saying,
21'Nowhearthis, O foolish and bsenselesspeople, Who have 11eyes but do not see; Who have ears but do not hear.
'Do you not 12fear Me?' declares the LORD. 'Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have 13placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, An eternaldecree, so it cannotcrossover it. Though the wavestoss, yet they cannotprevail; Though they roar, yet they cannotcrossover it.
'But thispeoplehas a 14stubborn and rebelliousheart; They have turnedaside and departed.
'They do not say in their heart, "Let us nowfear the LORD our God, Who 15givesrain in its season, Both 16the autumnrain and the springrain, Who keeps for us The 17appointedweeks of the harvest."
'Your 18iniquities have turnedtheseaway, And your sins have withheldgood from you.
'For wickedmen are found among My people, They 19watch like fowlersclying in wait; They set a trap, They catchmen.
'Like a cagefull of birds, So their houses are full of 20deceit; Therefore they have becomegreat and rich.
'They are 21fat, they are sleek, They alsodexcel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the e22orphan, that they may prosper; And they do not fdefend the rights of the poor.
'23Shall I not punishgthese people?' declares the LORD, 'On a nationsuch as this Shall I not avengeMyself?'
"An appalling and 24horriblething Has happened in the land:
The 25prophetsprophesyfalsely, And the priestsrulehon their own authority; And My people26love it so! But what will you do at the end of it?
